- Puducherry and Karaikal inside Tamil Nadu, Mahe inside Kerala, and Yanam inside Andhra Pradesh

- Tamil and English everywhere. Telugu in Yanam only, Malayalam in Mahe only, and French still has an official place
- The name
- Its old French name was Pondicherry. It went back to Puducherry in 2006
- French rule
- It was French, not British, for about 280 years, with a few breaks
